Design
What does a good design mean to us?
Well, most importantly it means satisfying the needs of the client and the society – here society could easily be replaced by Earth. Usually it is feasible by standards and guidelines, but it is not always the case, as it cannot be applied in every case; sometimes we have to revise or look for another solution. Meeting all expectations at once can seem surreal, but it is the fundamental task of engineers.
The appearance of new materials and construction methods have drastically increased in the last decades in the construction industry. The good old methods were substituted by newer ones, which have not proved to be sufficient yet. For assessing the properties and expected behaviour of these new materials a considerate engineering experience and high-end technical equipment are a must, although not every engineer is in possession of those. During our designs and based on the consideration of how important one task is we always carry out our own material- or construction tests in order to support the above mentioned circumstances.
Thus, experience gained from research and material testing are inevitable and relevant parts of our designs. Our main goal is with the advanced finite element analysis simulations extracted from these data, apart from meeting the standards, is optimisation, sustainability and minimizing the environmental footprint.
